October 26, 2005Help us Turn Out StudentsBy Karl-Thomas MusselmanOne of the things that we have done to help educate and raise awareness among UT students is to buy advertising on the facebook, the popular college version of friendster and myspace. To advertise at UT is $19 a day and we'd like to keep our ad buy up for the next two weeks. And to do that, I'm asking if you the readers of BOR will help make that possible. Does it work? There were 215 students yesterday that clicked through the ad to visit our Campus Alliance voting info page, and then 25% of them continued on to read our About Prop 2 page. You can see the spike in traffic here and think about those campus turnout numbers. The more you can donate through paypal, the longer we can stay up. We might even be able to reach out to other universities in Texas with tailored messages. We'd target those with voting locations on campus first, as well as the few generally liberal campuses, and could target conservative campuses with the Save Texas Marriage message. But only if we have more than we need to cover UT-Austin. So please, donate what you can to help us turn out the demographic that is most opposed to Proposition 2. I'm purchasing the ads via paypal and can do it cheaper as a student than an outside campaign can.

Great job getting the vote out at UT everyone. I've pitched in a little bit to help out here, and facebook is a great place to reach students and young people. I hope that some readers can chip in a little bit.
