Can you please tell us more about the source of these polling numbers and a link to where they have been made public? I don't know if they are public numbers, I just happened to be told this little nugget by the group that ran it, which would be the pro-proposal group. I could have not shared it with you, but considering this is the Burnt Orange Report, we wouldn't be here if we didn't through y'all a few insider bones once in a while. Claiming a poll shows "the group of people most in favor of the ban, are those that attend live music venues" without providing information about said poll gives the perception of manipulating public opinion in favor of a political agenda. I'm not saying you meant to do this, but that's how it looks. It may have been better to hold on this nugget of information a day or two until more information (link to the report, sponsoring organization, full results, etc.) was available. I don't mean to sound harsh, pedantic, or holier-than-thou (Lord knows, I've made my share of blog screw-ups). But I'm just sayin' that all us bloggers (myself included) need to strive for factual correctness to preserve the credibility of the medium. Next time I'll just not give y'all nuggets of info if no one appreciates them. I don't get anything out of making shit up on here. I struggle with the smoking ban question because I have asthma and live with a bunch of smokers. They are all banned from smoking inside, but even when we're just sitting outside on a beautiful day like today, the smoke still bothers me a little bit. When I was at ACL this year there were times I felt like everyone in Austin smoked and they were determined to surround me at every venue. I think the internal poll was probably accurate to a good degree and an interesting bit of news to pass on - thanks. I know that there are over 46,000 businesses in Austin, and only 211 of them allow smoking to the 30% of Austinites that smoke. I believe that banning ones clientele from participating in a legal activity on private property is unethical (yes, folks, a bar may be open to the public, but it is still private property). To not allow venues and bars to cater to their customers is just ridiculus. I don't smoke but do believe that people have a choice to enter a smokey bar or not.
