Oppose Frost for DNC?

By Byron LaMasters

Fine. Just do it for the right reasons.

Some examples of good reasons to oppose Frost?

Off The Kuff, Greg's Opinion, Southpaw, The Scarlet Left and TAPPED are a few examples. So are some of the thoughts posted by Karl-Thomas and Nate on this blog.

Martin Frost has some weaknesses that I'm uneasy about. As I've said before, Frost is not the most tech/net-savvy guy around. He's not the most reform-oriented candidate in the field, but overall on the balance, he's one of my top choices. I've said all this before.

I'm no Martin Frost hack, but I do think that the many of the blogosphere attacks against him have not been intellectually honest. Throwing up a picture of Frost and a Republican doesn't prove that Frost endorsed a Republican. It doesn't even prove that he's a conservative or a Blue Dog. It only proves that he was fighting like hell to win a seat where he should have gotten 35% of the vote.

It especially annoys me that the same people that attacked Tim Roemer for not standing up and fighting in 2002 when he would have had a tough reelection are attacking Martin Frost for doing exactly what Tim Roemer did not do - standing up and fighting the race of his life.

I totally agree. My guy Chet Edwards was very much in the same same boat this year. He had to run in a conservative district and he had to run ads telling people where and how he agreed with President Bush.

My principal problem is that he is the status quo guy. He may talk about some reforms, but I think many of us want something much more substantive to happen in this race than that.

I want somebody who is totally from the outside to swoop in and start making changes and grabbing headlines while doing it. Howard Dean is that guy to me.

Bryon, I agree and it annoys me too.

in all fairness, i think everybody's taken their shots at roemer for him wimping out last time around. maybe that just hasn't gotten as much coverage since roemer's bid seems to be dead in the water right now.

byron, it was a mistake in the spelling and for that, i apologize.

Byron -- I agree with you. Frost may not be the "right guy." However, Dean supporters cannot trash Frost, while simultaneously advocating a 50-state strategy. They can't be taken seriously on the second. Indeed, they can't make the second argument with a straight face. Let's get real. Dean is the candidate of the Left Wing of the Democratic Party. He may have been a centrist governor of Vermont, but he is not portraying himself as a mainstreamer anymore.

Nate -- Headlines are great, as long as they don't do more harm than good. If Dean is our chairman, then the enemy will be calling us the Party of Teddy Kennedy, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Howard Dean. It won't be a compliment. Now, I don't care what right wing Republicans think, but I do care what the voters think. We need a fighter. We just don't need Dean.

P.S. Unlike Daniel, I have respect for Hillary CLinton. She has taken the time to study the situation on the ground in both Afghanistan and Iraq. She may have a ways to go, but she is no longer the Hillary of the hopeless Health Care Plan.
