Hubert Vo was robbed. Posted by: Bill at May 25, 2005 05:37 PMI had heard that it was down to Veasey and Anchia on the Dem side, so I was a little bit surprised as well. Posted by: Byron L at May 25, 2005 05:59 PMEveryone Loves Mando Martinez! Big Smile on his face everyday... You can tell he really loves his Job and Dist. Posted by: Cap. Count at May 25, 2005 06:10 PMRep. Armando Martinez is a Craddick D who will face the Ardmore D incumbent he beat in the primary next year. The Speaker told R members to vote for Armando so that it would help him in his primary. Posted by: The Waterboy at May 25, 2005 06:18 PMTell me this WaterBoy... Why did Wise lose if he was so great? Please do tell... Posted by: Cap. Count at May 25, 2005 07:06 PMI didn't say anything good about Wise. Wise was lazy and ignored his district and got beat. Period. That doesn't change the fact that the first thing Martinez did was go to Craddick and pledge his loyalty to the Speaker in order to secure funding for his next primary. Apparently the Freshman of the Year award was part of the package. Posted by: The Waterboy at May 25, 2005 08:43 PMdon't necessarily know if wise is a great choice, & i don't think the speaker told the reps who to vote for, they figured that out on their own. it's obvious the R's knew what they were doing. Otto won by a big margin...that's gonna bode well for him in the district where he beat Mabry, the democratic Freshman of the Year from 03. R's voted for Mando to keep him around, but the D's didnt have the same cohesiveness. Mando barely won...goes to show the D's still need to work on having a unified front to counter the R's. Posted by: Ray at May 25, 2005 08:47 PMUnless I'm mistaken- and I'm pretty sure I'm not- Mabry lost to "Doc" Anderson. Posted by: Cincinnatus at May 25, 2005 09:48 PMMando Martinez as freshman of the year? Oh, the wonderful things that happen when you have a big goofy smile and absolutely nothing to say. Posted by: gulf coast dem girl at May 25, 2005 11:57 PMJohn Otto beat Dan Ellis, a member who rivaled Mike Wise in his laziness and unwillingness to campaign. Both FOY choices were made by the Speaker to help Otto in his general election and Martinez in his primary. Posted by: The Waterboy at May 26, 2005 08:22 AMHubert Vo did deserve it. Posted by: Elle at May 26, 2005 09:52 AMI have to agree that Hubert Vo really earned this award. Posted by: Andrea Meyer at May 26, 2005 10:14 AMWhat did Hubert Vo do to deserve it, besides becoming a rallying cry figure? I'm merely curious-he seems very decent so I wouldn't put it past him to have done good stuff, but I haven't heard of any. Posted by: UTStudent at May 26, 2005 11:50 AMI too, would like to hear the reasons Vo should have gotten the nod. Posted by: Mike Cable at May 26, 2005 07:27 PMWell, I guess his qualification was winning an election by a small margin. That corporate stooge Martinez insisted-INSISTED-on winning by a healthy margin. Posted by: UTStudent at May 27, 2005 02:23 PM
