September 01, 2004Like Al Gore, but stifferBy Jim DallasCheney's giving us a laundry list speech. Will we then "shock" us by giving Lynne a big smacker? Monotone... blah/blah/blah.... Damn, apparently I missed Zell Miller's "commit me now!" (or at least, I hear it was pretty nutty) speech. I finally get around to tuning into the GOP convention, and I get... this? Something tells me that the GOP docs intended to slip some valium to Zig-Zag but accidentally put it in Cheney's cup. UPDATE: WTF? Cheney said something about Iraq's nukes being stored away in Tennessee?!? UPDATE 2: Here we go with the "bash-Kerry" routine. Now Cheney's getting enthusiastic. Lies, nonsense, hypocrisy. UPDATE 3: I still remember Cheney's 2000 speech (riffing on Gore's "it's time for them to go" speech). This just plain sucked, and I say that objectively, not as a partisan. Oh, boy, Brooks and Dunn is on. If we could get rid of all the Republicans, the Republican Convention would be awesome! (I believe I made a few errors herein which have now been corrected.) Yes, Cheney was such a bore. But how 'bout Zell? He was crazy! Such yummy red meat he tossed out there. I got on my knees and thanked God that Zell spoke at the Repubican convention and in Prime Time!!!!! Zell Miller showed the TRUE face of the Republicans tonight. Bitter, hateful, radical, extremist and Imperialistic. He did more for John Kerry tonight than Kerry's entire war chest could have done. All those moderate, undecided voters that both camps have diligently been courting will be RUNNING to the Kerry camp compliments of Zell. I called my 76 yr old June Clever of a mother after he was done as I knew that she would be watching. I asked her what she thought and she said that she just changed the channel. She said that she just couldn't listen to such bitter extremism. She just thought that he was a hateful, bitter old man. So as much as people might hate Zell for speaking at the Republican convention -- he did the Democrats a HUGE favor by doing so. Posted by: gt at September 1, 2004 11:03 PMI was watching Chris Matthews interview Zell's speech and he wouldn't let his interviewee talk as usual, but Zell wasn't having any of it. He challenged Chris Matthews to an old fashioned duel! They switched to Frank Luntz's focus group and the independents loved the speech. We'll see what happens, but if those independents were an accurate representative sample of swing voters then Kerry has a lot of work to do. Obviously Zell does not like to be challenged with facts, he's got his pieces of paper and that's all that matters. The fact that Frank Luntz can be passed off as unbiased is beyond me.
