Breaking News: Indictments Against DeLay Cronies Handed Down

By Andrew Dobbs

From Clean Up Texas Politics, quoting the Austin American-Statesman:

A Travis County grand jury today indicted three consultants with Texans for a Republican Majority and at least seven corporate donors, according to lawyers for U.S. House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.

Indicted were John Colyandro, executive director of the political action committee; Warren Robold, a Washington, D.C., fund-raiser; and Jim Ellis a key aide to DeLay, according to Austin attorney Steve Brittain, who is a lawyer for DeLay.

Defense attorneys said Colyandro and Robold were charged with about a dozen felonies each; Ellis was indicted on one count. It was not yet known what the charges were.

Travis County District Attorney Ronnie Earle was not available for comment yet, and the indictments were still being processed.

Today's indictments were the result of almost two years of investigation.

The corporations indicted are Sears Roebuck & Co., Barcardi USA Inc., Cracker Barrel Old Country Store Inc., Diversified Collection Services Inc., Questerra Corporation, Williams Companies, Inc., Westar Energy Inc., Alliance for Qualilty Nursing Home Care, Inc. Several of these companies, of course, are long time Texas GOP sponsors. Now we'll have to see if Colyandro, Ceverha or one of the others sells DeLay up the river in return for immunity. The Hammer's about to get nailed.

Andrew Dobbs is always good for a heaping pile of crap. Just becuase Ronnie Earle is in the process of indicting someone, doesn't mean there is 1. substantive evidence against them 2. the guarantee of a trial or 3. any proof that they did anyhting wrong. Ronnie Earle is always good for a laugh and this time he has most of the state rolling in the aisles. This will slide of Delay's back like everyhting else does. Andrew Dobbs needs to pull his head out of his ass and take a good look at the world aroudn him-- a big time democratic bringing charges against a big time republican doesn't amoutn to shit. Try harder next time andrew and maybe you wont have to attahc your name to such a pile of crap.

Whoa there big guy. I think someone's a little tense. If its no big deal, then no need to worry about it. However, I don't think Andrew is the one that is spewing crap at the moment. The Dallas Morning News, Houston Chronicle, Austin American Statesman, and San Antonio News-Express are all leading with the story on their websites about the Delay cronies getting indicted. Maybe Andrew was relaying that information that seemed credible enough for bascially every major paper in Texas to report? If Delay didn't break the law, then don't worry about it.

That's weird- who are you Bill? I don't care- if I got mad at everyone who thought I was full of shit I wouldn't have any friends at all.

And Ronnie Earle isn't known for bringing charges against people lightly- Republicans claim so but it is merely hopeful thinking. He has filed against more Democrats than Republicans (bringing down the Dem speaker of the Texas House and essentially ending Jim Hightower's careers along the way) and he has even filed (misdemeanor) charges against himself once when he missed a finance reporting deadline. If he didn't have anything after nearly 2 years or if he had only paltry shit it'd hurt him more than anyone else. Earle has the goods on someone.

And these big out of state corporations aren't hip to Earle's reputation really. I'm sure they will be sooner or later but once their attorneys sit down in a room with Earle and he spells out what he has and what kind of damage they're looking at, something tells me they'll probably fold real quick and DeLay will be in trouble. Next will be Craddick and on down the list. Sharpstown will be a Sunday School picnic compared to what's about to come down the pike.

I assume I know you socially or else you'd refer to me as "Andrew D" rather than my full name. Just tell me who you are and I'll satisfy myself, buy you a beer maybe. Thanks!

Some may recall that TRM Treasurer Bill Ceverha as the raving homophobe who attempted to make private consensual adult gay sex a felony back in the 1980's while a member of the Texas Leg.

Well, well, looks like what goes around come around for the Texas Republican/Bigots, America's most infamous hate group.

Sorry I blew up. I keep up with this blog on occasion and am usually upset by its contents. However, to see a sophist like Andrew Dobbs attack a good, god-fearing man like Tom Delay makes me sick. All you liberals out there want to attack Delay, but he is the only politicla figure in America with the heart to fight for putting god back into our schools, taking up the fight against the terrorists in the middle east and holding the line agianst illegal immigration and the bad people it brings into our country. I know Andrew is intelligent, I just hope that he and his fellow America haters aren't able to bring down one of the best, and most honest, men in the history of American politics.
sorry again.

sorry to keep posting. I'm just really frustrated. I worked for Delay once and would really like to clear the air. Though i really respect Andrew Dobbs, I feel that his opinions (and those of like minded people) are based on unreality. I bet if he had a brother in Iraq or a father or mother whos erved the community he wouldn't hold such American hating positions. Liberal elitism really upsets me especially when it is applied to a good man like Delay. We should talk soemtime andrew, i think i could change your mind

Don't you know when you're killin' bugs, you're supposed to wear a mask? LOL...

***I bet if he had a brother in Iraq or a father or mother whos erved the community he wouldn't hold such American hating positions.***

My husband served and my son just got out of that hellhole so I guess I'm qualified to respond to such a nonsensical statement.

If DeLay goes down, well, I won't shed any tears or suffer any angst. In fact, if he goes then that's one down and how many to go?

bill,

Tom Delay does not equal America. A one-party system and the disenfranchisement of half the voting population is distinctly at odds with our founding fathers' vision and the history of our nation, so cut the "un-American" rhetoric. If anyone is un-American, it's Delay.

I believe the Republicans would never have been able to take control of the Texas legislature without Delay's influx of corporate cash.

The Republicans dutifully carried out their goal of gerrymandering Texas' federal Congressional districts. This effectively disenfranchises large voting blocs.

Using illegal means to subvert the democratic process reveals Delay's thuggish and proto-fascist nature.

Delay's in deep sh*t and it's good for America. Deal with it.
