These are today's lecture notes for a rhetoric course I teach in a computer lab in the basement of FAC. I love teaching in election years but it's a tough gig when students have little interest in current events, politics, news, reading...At the beginning of the semester, only 2-3 out of more than 20 had ever heard of a blog. Last week about the same number recognized the name Condoleeza Rice. I knew that at least some of you are students at UT and thought BOR would be a good example for my students on a number of levels. And they actually perked up when I introduced the site. We'd love to have one or more of you drop in some time to discuss it and do a Q&A. Mail me if this is something you might be interested in doing. The point of my aside? Not really much point, other than to suggest that the course is an entry-level (mostly) freshmen course that people commonly test out of (including myself). The intent was not in any way meant to be condescending in anyway, if that was the impression given. Posted by: Byron L at September 24, 2004 11:31 AMByron - thanks, that makes sense. The aside came across to me as sounding a little elitist, and I wasn't sure what you were trying to say. I figured you weren't trying to be snotty, which would seem quite out of character, so I was wondered what you actually meant. I wasn't trying to be snide in my comment, I was just hoping that you could elaborate a little bit so as to avoid the (false) perception that you were implying that people who do not test out of E306 are in some way less intelligent.
