August 10, 2004DMN Investigative Research on Kerry's ServiceBy Byron LaMastersEven though they had already run a fact check yesterday on the Kerry-smearing Swift Boat Veterans for Truth ad, the Dallas Morning News ran a large front-page "investigative research" story today. Does it tell us anything that we didn't already know? Not at all. The story is simple. The men that John Kerry commanded on his swift boats - the people that served under John Kerry day and night, say one thing about John Kerry's service. They consider him a hero and stand by him today. The people that didn't serve with him, who had limited contact with, and who are only speaking out after thirty years, and are being funded by right-wing hack Bob Perry say another. I know who I trust. I'd be surprised if the Swift Vets ad doesn't backfire. It's vicious and hateful in tone, and lacks evidence and creditability to back up the claims it makes. If you haven't seen it yet, check it out here. Posted by Byron LaMasters at August 10, 2004 01:09 PM | TrackBack

In what is quickly becoming one of the best TV news shows, last night's episode (9 August 2004) of The Daily Show featured an unforgiving mockery of the Swift-Boat Veterans attack ad. Also, the non-partisan Annenberg Political Fact Check debunks the "dishonest and dishonorable" attack. Posted by: seth at August 10, 2004 01:19 PMI think the Daily Show asked one of the best questions. Why would a doctor remember such a superficial wound 40 years later? Posted by: TC at August 10, 2004 02:41 PMSounds good. I've occasionally watched the Daily Show in the past, but recently I've tried to watch it more regularly, but missed it last night. I guess I need to start making it a nightly habit. Posted by: Byron L at August 10, 2004 03:46 PMThe Daily Show comes on Comedy Central at 10pm and they re-run the previous night's episode at 6 pm the next day. Last night's guest was Bill Clinton. If you're watching TV in 13 minutes, I highly recommend it. Posted by: seth at August 10, 2004 05:48 PMWhere is your objectivity? You've got 250 or so Vets saying one thing and 9-11 saying another. 11 out of 19 Vets in the famous picture want Sen. Kerry to stop using the picture in support of his campaign. 2 of those pictured have passed. Some of those 250 Vets are still in the Service, one an admiral. These guys have risked libel by making these claims they're making. Not new claims either, some were made in 1996 in the Boston Globe. Sen. Kerry made his experience in Vietnam a central reason to be commander in chief. His 4 and a half months of service verses President Bush's 3 and a half years of service AS commander in chief. No camparison who is more experienced here...the President. John O'Neal is a Democrat. A Democratic trial lawyer. He forwarned the party. You'al called fro records in the past. Where are Kerry's records? Our President hasn't LEAKED Kerry's records out like Linda Tripp's were. Hey you guys remember Admiral Borda? V-pens? By the way, where are Max Cleland's medals? Why doesn't the media EVER refer to his decorations with his name? What decorations did he recieve for his injuries in Vietnam? No Purple Hearts? No Silver Stars? A Bronze Star? To be fair, I'm grateful for his Service and in no way wish to do harm to his reputation. Posted by: peter at August 11, 2004 02:31 PM
