The Daily Texan Endorses John Courage CD TX-21

by: sonia on Mon Oct 23, 2006 at 10:09:48 AM CDT

John Courage has been endorsed by The Daily Texan newspaper.  In their Editor’s Note, the editors state that they attempted to endorse in as many races as possible where the race outcome might affect students.  John is very honored to have the endorsement and he looks forward to representing the student population across UT and the rest of the district.
The Daily Texan 2006 Endorsements 10/23/06
U.S. Representative, District 21
John Courage

If this race seems familiar, it’s because it took place four years ago. Incumbent Lamar Smith won in a landslide against Courage in 2002. A lot has changed since then, however, and Smith’s less-than-admirable ties with Tom Delay and Karl Rove, coupled with an irredeemably partisan voting record (including cheerleading the War in Iraq and an "F" rating from the National Education Association), are ample cause for his removal. Smith’s nationalistic fervor against immigrants last spring, which included cosigning the bill which threatened to turn immigrants into felons, was a prime example of his willingness to manipulate controversial issues solely in the interest of political gain.

Democrat John Courage has come back strong with a commitment to reform. His progressive views on a national energy policy and the environment are what are needed to alleviate some of the critical ills facing the country. A former teacher who has fought on the side of higher education for nearly 30 years, Courage is the best candidate to represent the University’s interests in Washington. The Texan emphatically endorses John Courage for U.S. representative.

We couldn’t agree more.  John is the best candidate to represent the University’s interests in Washington.  Don't forget to vote early.  Early voting starts today.

In times like these Congress needs Courage!

Rather than start a whole different thread, I wanted to add that John also picked up the endorsement of the Travis County Green Party, this weekend.

Thank you Travis County Greens!

Well how about this for a surprise
They endorsed (----) for Governor.  I won't even mention his name.  That wasn't a happy surprise for me.

We don't take anything for granted.

DT endorsement (5.00 / 2)
Of course they did! How could they possibly endorse old Lamar? He's no friend to education. Why on earth do these guys think higher education debt is okay/ will move the American economy forward? Oh, I forgot, it's only privitized education they support.
Good for John- he deserves it as someone who truly understands education and I hope students take both endorsements to heart.

And you can vote for John Courage today (5.00 / 1)
at your convenience at any of the early voting polling places, including UT campus' Flawn Lobby, West Mall.  Early voting starts today and lasts through Nov 3.  Remember that John’s is a special election.  Even if you’re voting straight Dem ticket, you have to specifically vote for John Courage for Congress.
