You know, I think Bush is a horrible, horrible president. But that ad is not funny to me. I don't understand why people find it necessary to throw hateful, vulgar personal jabs at politicians they don't like. Its beneath us, as participants in a democratic society - and as fellow human beings.

I agree (strongly) with the above comment. The "ad" was totally devoid of actual humor---whether or not one thinks that it was in bad taste.(I do).
It neither mobilizes the base, nor convinces the uncommitted(it in fact would do the opposite), nor amuses anyone old enough to find scatological references to be childish rather than titillating.

It's a joke- it won't be shown anywhere, its making fun of political ads and the president at the same time. Chill- its funny. Would I want it shown at 7:13 PM in Boise? No, but I think that among like-minded people its a hilarious joke.

Maybe I'm a sick, hateful, tasteless person (I'll never deny it) but everyone I've shown it to (including my mother) loved it.

I think its funny. Obviously its not the kind of thing that we would really aire on TV (yeah, the FCC would probably have a problem with it), but its good red meat for the base to have some fun with IMO...

Look, I take you guys and this site seriously. I think you do amazing work covering Texas politics. That sort of dismissive comment is not what I've come to expect here, but perhaps I have gotten the wrong impression.

Whether your mom or everyone you've shown it to finds it funny is immaterial. It reflects a fundamental lack of respect for those with whom you disagree. If something like this energizes "the base" then I've learned something about the base that deeply disappoints me. Even if you write it off as an inside joke, understand that it is impossible to privately embrace hatefulness but come across to outsiders as sincerely committed to respectful dialogue. This is a big reason why so many people opt out of politics: they find the acrimony and personal attacks offensive, regardless of which side they come from.

Andrew & Byron---it's just not funny. I'm not a prude or priss ,e.g. I love old Richard Pryor movies, but calling people a bunch of swear words in and of itself certainly doesn't qualify as SATIRE or any other type of humor just because you would't use the language to a professor or your parents(maybe). I do think Bush is an asshole but calling him one doesn't make me Chris Rock. The whole thing was VERY juvenile.If it's red meat for the base, the base is comprised of 8 year olds.
