Here here, Byron. I didn't support his campaign either- though I did have a healthy ammount of respect for it. He has always been a class act and he's one of a dying breed. He was a Watergate Baby, and there are very few of those guys left. Over the last quarter century he has been an effective and powerful voice for Democrats and I hope that he is still around in some capacity. Here's hoping for a Democratic President in 2004 to appoint him to a cabinet position.

Gephardt is retiring from congress. I heard a quote from him somewhere saying that this was his final campaign, but I can't find the link right now. But yeah, he is out. Why would he stay on as a backbencher, anyways? If he wanted to have serving in Congress as a fallback position, he wouldn't have resigned as minority leader.

Posted by Sherk at January 20, 2004 01:39 PMGreat words, Byron. I agreee 100% with them. But I also think Gephardt COULD be a good VP choice for Clark and Dean, especially Clark and even Edwards. Edwards, the youthful southern senator, and Gephardt, the veteran midwest congressman. I think it could work. If not, he would be a great Sec of HUD or Sec of HHS

As a congressman and not a senator, he doesn't necessarily bring Missouri, and he doesn't bring too much money either, but he might work. He'd be a great Sec of HUD, Sec of HHS or Sec of Labor.
