Though I'm wondering if he used state party data to send them out;
In all fairness... no, he could not have. How do I know? Because the state party mails to my P.O. box address, and Soechting mailed to my home address... i.e., my voter registration address. In Houston, at least, the latter address is readily available on the web at the county voter registrar's web site. AFAIK, the state Democratic Party doesn't have my physical address. So Soechting is playing it straight, at least as far as I can tell.

Posted by Karl-T at May 22, 2004 11:01 PMFurtermore, as of this point (and as far as I can tell from conversations with the Chairman and his political consultant this will remain the case) no one is challenging Soechting. Word was Mauro might try and then he realized he couldn't win, and Charles has made friends with Van Os, who made it clear to the PPC ppl that he would not countenance a challenger to Soechting and all of his other enemies have made friends with him. The only murmurs are from South Texas and from Brazos County chair Mary Moore (who seems less and less likely to run). I suspect that he will be unchallenged.
Charles' best quality as a person and as a chair is that he makes friends out of his enemies. I wrote on this page that I thought he was a terrible candidates, a terrible person and would be terrible for the party. Did he put me on a "ratfuck" list like so many others would? No- he emailed and called me and asked me to help him. He did the same thing w/ Van Os and others so he is widely liked. He is uniting the party by kicking out those who don't play well with others (Ron Wilson) and negotiating beefs all around the state. That is his real legacy and it is a great one to have.
