If you really want to be saddened, go read this week's Newsweek article about the White House memos that led to the authorization of such abuse. It really got to me that people who are leaders in this country would stoop to this level. I would compare the mentality to that of the Japanese when the invaded China in the 1930's.

This isn't an abuse scandal. This is a TORTURE scandal.
Some were beaten, some had cylume sticks shoved in their rectum, some had phosphoric acid (again from cylume sticks) poured on them, and at least one had a dog deliberately attack them, off the top of my head.
It was torture, not abuse.

It allows him to avoid taking a strong stance on things. He was "deeply troubled" by Israel's killing of Hamas' leader. He was "deeply troubled" by gay marriage.. He was also "deeply troubled" by the recent rise in gas prices...
