Listen to what the Northside School District in San Antonio just did. They didn't just ban books in some of the middle schools they totally got rid of the reading program in some. Now it's a skills class. Any student who wants to read a book will have to do so outside of class. The reason for this change...the scores for some of these schools wasn't high enough on the TAKS test. Anyone want to venture a guess at which schools are being made to have a skills class? Now any reading in class will come from some approved textbook.
