she is resigning her post to focus on her family responsibilities

Yeah, right...as if Tom DeLay is not behind this...somehow! ;-)

Actually, I was suspicious myself. There has been a long-standing feud between Malcolm and several SDEC members led primarily by former Travis County chairman David Van Os (who now resides in Bexar County).

I had a discussion about this issue (which was very much a bleeding wound during the late winter and spring) with Travis County SDEC member Ann McAfee last weekend. She told me that the acrimony had settled down a bit although she seemed to imply it was still there. Although several key friends-of-Van Os (e.g. John Courage) had apparently abandoned him and were willing to defend Molly Beth according to Ms. McAfee.

Whether or not this was a factor in the decision is unknown; but right now is really the best time for a chair to resign no matter what the reasons. The primary process starts anew in a few months and the new chair needs a few weeks to get his/her ducks in a row.

Molly Beth may run for Barry Telford's D-Texarkana, seat if he decides to retire.

Add Mary Moore from Brazos county to the candidates pot.

In the Dallas area there has been an informal push to draft former AG Jim Mattox for chair.
