Comments: Vo Wins Recount- Picks Up a Vote

Good news. It certainly undermines Heflin's contest.

Great news.

Since the legislature cannot change the result but only order a new election it would seem that Heflin is toast. I can't imagine that he could win a special election without Bush on the ticket. I gotta think that Vo has more potential voters in that district than Heflin.

So would you consider the endless recounting in Washington State to constitute a Party "stealing an election"?!?

No, the case in Washington is not stealing an election. Personally, I don't think this is "stealing" an election either. Both are going through the prescribed process. I would say that Gregoire has a stronger case considering it is a difference of 42 votes out of like 2 million cast. But I will concede that 32 (now 33) votes is a razor thin margin. I don't think the GOP should be quite as concerned about losing this particular seat but should be concerned about winning this seat in this manner. The damage wrought by this election contest could harm the inroads the GOP has made into Harris County's Asian community. As a Democrat, I have to say I would like nothing more then for the Houston Asian community to become wonderfully active members of our coalition. Coupled with redistricting, the GOP is now trying to consolidate power in a pretty shameful way. The good people of our state are going to kick their ass at the ballot box sooner than they think.
