Byron -
It's patently obvious - obvious - that this is being spun to divide liberals and justify self-righteousness on the part of christo-fascists in the Republican Party.
For the record, I'd remind people who actually think this is a big deal that Reagan once said Qaddafi was "nuttier than a fruitcake."
Incidentally, the full story shows that Bill Thomas was acting more like a Libyan dictator than a, well, you know...
But any case, this is grasping for straws, and a hell of a lot more pathetic than the whole thing with Al Gore and the "God hates fags" guy, a story ripped totally out of context by the unscrupulous "fruitcakes" (in the Qaddafi sense) over at the Log Cabin Republicans.
Posted by Jim D at July 25, 2003 04:56 PMChristo-fascists? No wonder you and Byron keep comparing the GOP to the Taliban. Get a grip.

Posted by Dave Wilkins at July 26, 2003 12:19 AMIt reminds me of how Joshua Micah Marshall dismissed my criticism of Senator (D-WV-KKK) Robert Byrd for being a Grand Wizard back in the day as 'typical conservative agitprop'. Well he had no reply when I told him about Senator Byrd's comments just two years ago about 'white n*ggers'. Again, having a D by your name covereth over a multitude of sins.
Posted by TX Pundit at July 28, 2003 12:06 AMStark has a perfect lifetime rating from the Human Rights Campaign. It was a poor choice of words, sure, but it was a heated exchange where several people lost their tempers. So what is appropriate and what isn't?
He may have a perfect gay support voting record, but such an unconscious slip reveals his true feelings regarding gays...at least, that's what you would squeal in an analogous situation, regarding a Republican who let slip a bigoted comment. "See, that's how they REALLY feel, deep inside."
