President Bush, meet Governor Weld.
Posted by Andrew D at September 3, 2004 02:19 AMI was at the midnight rally in Springfield Ohio, which is 25 miles NE of Dayton. We had thousands there. I would say 12-15,000. At least a 1,0000 supporters were not allowed in because of the fire code. Didn't get there in time to hear Edwards. It was a great speech, and Kerry took Bush/Cheney et al to task for their masquerade ball in NYC. Only mistake he made was about being premature about the Red Sox. Bushies are worried about Ohio. They are beginning to come up with other ways to get to 270 that don't include Ohio.
It's been fun living in a swing state. I'm from Collin County Texas.
Springfield is ground zero for the campaign. Clark County was won by Gore by like 200 votes or so. It's a depressed factory town, but the townships around it are heavily Republican. It's a good campaign area because Dayton and Columbus's media markets serve Springfield.
Posted by pc at September 3, 2004 08:13 AMWas it just me, or did anyone see similarities last night to Bush's introduction at the convention, and old propaganda films from the Nazis? I mean, you had all these flags, the presidential seal on the floor, and delegates waving USA signs and shouting "Bush". In 1930's Germany, it would have been the German flag, swastikas, and signs saying "Deuschland". Rove knows how to take pages from Goebbels' playbook.
Posted by grnwayrob at September 3, 2004 09:15 PMRight. Because Kerry didn't have flags and have people calling Kerry. Get over it handwringer.
