Was fuer ein idiotisches Buch.

Why, CONSERVATIVE Coming OUT Day, of course! Don't forget to stop by the West Mall this Wednesday from 10-2 to point and laugh!

This is hilarious:

"Conservative Coming Out Day IS MOST IMPORTANTLY A DEFENSIVE EVENT

"The idea is that we are creating a safe community for conservatives on our campus.  We are also going to use this as an EDUCATIONAL EVENT. We will be using the TACTICS of the left and the GLBT community by handing out "Proud Conservative" and "Conservative Ally" stickers and also by having a "coming out wall" for students to sign, and a word re-claiming wall where we will set straight some misconceptions of our liberal campus. There will be flyers and RWB ribbons to pass out to support our event, but WE WANT TO BE VERY SURE THAT THIS EVENT IS NOT MISUNDERSTOOD AS AN OUTRIGHT MOCKERY OF THE GAY COMMUNITY.

"These tactics have been VERY successful for that community, and the stigma is no longer attached to that lifestyle.  In fact, the tides have changed, and now conservatives are the ones who must hide their sentiments and morals in fear of discrimination and prejudice. We need to unite the conservative community and clarify some very key issues before we move on to more topic oriented events for the rest of the year.  Remember, also, that this is a huge recruiting tool.  We want students to be excited about conservatism, and we can use this event to light a fire under some of conservative friends who are still 'in the closet'."

Wouldn't it be awesome if it turned into a different kind of coming out day? Hmmm...

Why do they feel the need for a safe community on campus? Right now they control: every statewide elected office in Texas, the entire Texas Supreme Court, the presidency, both houses of Congress, and 5 of 4 seats on the U.S. Supreme Court. If they have that much power and are still nervous and fearful and need a safe environment to come out in, well I guess in Texas we would call them chickenshit.

Well, we did have a US President call himself a jelly doughnut before thousands of Berliners. Ofcourse that's one Kennedyism to 100+ Quaylisms and about a billion Bushisms.

No kidding - talk about a persecution complex! I suppose this is probably part of their strategy for reaching out to young people: make conservatism seem like it's a form of outsider politics and maybe it will seem more hip? Posted by Sarah at August 31, 2004 01:42 PM

"Ich bin ein Berliner." could be misconstrued as Kennedy saying that he was a jelly donut, but that's just an urban legend. The phrasing is mostly correct. Translated properly, it means, "I am a person from Berlin." not that Kennedy is a jelly donut. I personally would have said, "Ich bin Berliner."

On this theme . . . I kept expecting Arnold to decalre "eine Volke, eine Reich, eine Fuhrer" during his A-mer-ich-kuh speech last night.

Sorry, I still get worried when short, Austrian patriots start gesturing emphatically with two hands in front of large crowds of blonde people.
