Delay will never resign. They will change the rules (again) before they happens. The repugnicans need the little snake too badly this time around.

First, I don't know what is going on behind closed grandy jury doors, but an indictment (and conviction) of DeLay would not bother me in the least.

But ...

1) Who is the evil face of the GOP? Speaker Hastert and Majority Leader Frist don't raise blood pressure like DeLay. I think the Democratic Party would be better off by having a punching bag in office to demonize (Gingrich anyone?).

2) That district will elect a Republican anyway, so why not keep the bad guy in there to self-implode instead of a good guy face like Senator Janek, Representative Bonnen or some other replacement.

Playing the political chess game may seem unseemly for some BORers, but sometimes you have to think long-term.
