Also, have you ever noticed that the top 3 ratings- guarded, elevated and high- are essentially synonyms? I mean, what do they mean? What would it take to be at Red? Does anyone really pay attention to this stuff? The only effect I know is that tours of the UT Tower are cancelled during the Orange alerts. Other than that, i have no idea what this stuff means.

I was just in PC (Panama City, FL) this weekend. It is a totally insane mess down there.
The terror alert system is like everything else associated with Bush & Co., a big flucking joke. What's the point?
Besides, why do people keep forgetting that Sept 11th was NOT the first act of terrorism in this country. Has everyone forgotten Oklahoma City? Home bred terrorism, is just as devastating. Maybe even worse.

Orange alerts cost entirely too much money for the businesses in this country, including the airlines. The Bush team will no doubt pull the orange alert again closer to election time, but only for political reasons. I mean, even the fire departments are asking, "What else can we do to prepare with the little amount of money Washington is sending us?" Bush tried to defeat the bill that gave fire departments more grant money, even as he was wrapping his arms around firefighters for his photo ops. (Or in the case of his TV ads, actors dressed up like firefighters!)
