February 7, 2005 The Honorable Vilma Luna Capitol Room 4S.03 Austin, TX 78768-2910 Dear Representative Luna: I read with great interest the story in yesterday's Corpus Christi Caller Times where you are quoted accusing me of having met with Solomon Ortiz Jr. at party headquarters to facilitate a primary run against you. Also interesting was the quote from your friend, Austin Republican consultant Dya Campos, suggesting that forces were aligning against you because you are on the Speaker's Leadership team. Let me take this opportunity to assure you that I have never spoken with Mr. Ortiz. I don't believe that I have personally even met the man, though all reports indicate that he is performing admirably as one of our better Democratic county chairs in the state. With all due respect, I sincerely hope you base your legislative decisions on more solid information than you did this decision to falsely name me in your hometown paper. I am sure you are as concerned as the voters in your district about the anti-democratic and short sighted actions of the House leadership over the past two years. You are no doubt then unhappy about being as closely associated with the leadership as you were in this story. I'm sure that, as a Democrat, your values are much stronger than Ms. Campos' comment would suggest."
