March 29, 2005Soechting's RulingBy Byron LaMastersFrom my post earlier today was news of the opinion of the state party chair, Charles Soechting over who should chair the April 2 Dallas County Democratic Executive Committee Meeting. I've now posted the letter from State Chair Charles Soechting to Dallas SDEC member Ken Molberg. You can read it here in PDF format. Posted by Byron LaMasters at March 29, 2005 11:36 PM | TrackBack

Thanks for bringing the Soechting opinion to our attention. There are many "shalls" in The Election Code and Party rules which have been "overlooked" by Party officials. Posted by: John McConnell at March 30, 2005 11:47 AMIf the state party rule means nothing in light of state law, who are the bright lights that wrote the party rule in the first place? Posted by: Bewildered at March 30, 2005 02:55 PMAs I read this ruling, it confirms my contention that Wilkins needs to appoint a temporary chair to run the Saturday meeting. That meeting can only be for the purpose of selecting a NEW CHAIR. Not that we have to elect one that day, but the process can be put into place. After that bit of business has been done, an emergency meeting can be called to start right after the first in which the new precinct chairs can be sworn in and any other business can be addressed. Everyone gets what they want and Election Code and Party Rules are followed. The proceedings are not open to further devisive fights over how things were done. As long as a Temporary Chair is appointed who has no specific agenda and their only goal is the move past all this fighting, we should be able to move forward and begin to focus on 2006!
