October 08, 2004Don't Donate to Brad Carson AnymoreBy Byron LaMasters![]() Ok, I'm done cheerleading for Brad Carson. I'd give to some one else. I'll recommend Tony Knowles, Betty Castor and Ken Salazar. Posted by Byron LaMasters at October 8, 2004 12:47 AM | TrackBack

Because of a football rivalry? That's pretty silly. Posted by: Karl-T at October 8, 2004 02:05 AMKarl-T: Apparently, a stupid football rivalry is more important than the direction of our country. It may be time to put Byron on a timeout for a couple of days and take away his posting priveleges until this temper tantrum passes. This poses an interesting question. As Austin democrats, should we hope that OU beats UT this weekend so that way the OU fans that don't really think about politics too much, think about casting their vote to Carson as he rides Switzer's coattails? Posted by: Karl-T at October 8, 2004 02:30 AMKarl-Thomas - it's a joke, silly. Posted by: Byron L at October 8, 2004 03:02 AMThe Switzer endorsement makes a difference. If you look back at the primaries, Switzer endorsed Edwards in Oklahoma a few days before the primaries. Edwards surged on Clark who was running strong there. Also, a Switzer endorsement could have been made without using the upside-down horns. I want Carson to win as bad as anybody does, but geez. Can't you let your hatred of Texas ever cease? That being said, OU sucks, and Cedric is gonna run all over the Sooners this weekend. Posted by: Mark at October 8, 2004 03:54 AMfootball always comes before politics. Posted by: Sal D at October 8, 2004 04:10 AM"should we hope that OU beats UT" no, never. who all's going to the game, btw? i have a ticket, but i think i'm just gonna drive up there really early on saturday morning and leave that same day. not as fun as staying there the entire weekend, but at least i'll be able to go to the game and won't waste my ticket. hook 'em and BTHOOU. Posted by: Sal D at October 8, 2004 04:15 AMI'm sure W will be rooting for UT, so its time to root for OU. Since, according to you'al, W is always on the wrong side of all issues, UT must lose. Posted by: peter at October 8, 2004 09:12 AMDidn't Carson vote FOR the FMA? And Switzer, at least, took Dallas to the Super Bowl. At least it is not that evil Bob Stoops. Hook 'Em! ...and Fight on! Posted by: boifromtroy at October 8, 2004 11:34 AMAlright, I hate OU so much they make me want to vomit, but I have to say that Switzer is far worse than Stoops. Stoops is a decent human being under it all, his team's affiliation with Satan aside. But Switzer allowed all kinds of shit to go on and he's white trash. No fucking way. I hate them both. I say we wait a week or two. Carson will need a pick-me-up when we beat the hell out of OU. Posted by: Andrew D at October 8, 2004 11:37 AMI think the Switzer endorsement is a great thing. Yes, he was responsible for the John Edwards surge in Oklahoma during the primaries, and yes, Barry still counts to those folks north of the Red River. A republican failure to hold their own senate seat in Oklahoma would be a very big thing, even if Carson is too conservative. Go Longhorns in Big D Saturday, but Go Carson! Posted by: Jackson Williams at October 8, 2004 11:57 AMEndorsing Carson is the first decent thing ole' Barry has done in his sleazy, miserable life. Posted by: BobT at October 8, 2004 12:10 PMWell, I think you as a Democrat are being superificial and hasty in not supporting Carson . . . but he has all the money he needs. His challenge is votes. I have a bet: OU beats Texas, Burnt Orange Report goes Crimson and Cream for two days . . . Texas beats OU, SoonerPolitics will go Orange and White for a week. Email me back at editor@soonerpolitics.com.\ Keith Posted by: Keith G at October 8, 2004 01:45 PMKarl-Thomas: Yes, football always comes before politics, whether you like football or not. If you don't know that, then you don't understand politics. The #1 reason that Kerry is having trouble in Wisconsin IMO is that he forgot that the Packers play at Lambeau Field and not Lambert Field. Mark / BoiFromTroy - Yes, Switzer does matter in Oklahoma. He's the reason Brad Henry won in 2000. Switzer endorsed him late, Henry ran ads about it and Henry won by several thousand votes. Still, Switzer is an idiot. He made it to the Super Bowl with Jimmy Johnson's team. With the team Johnson left him, he should have won three Super Bowl's, but he was more interested in taking guns on airplanes (and full disclosure: I hate the Cowboys. I was raised a 49ers fan). Keith - sounds like a bet to me. Good point generally, though I would say Switzer is an idiot more so for trying to carry a handgun onto an airplane. He did win three national titles, and was 9-5-2 against the Longhorns. A gentlemens' bet it is. I remain cautiously optimistic about the Sooners, but have tested a Burnt Umber treatment for SoonerPolitics. Oh, Byron, the color settngs from Crimson are Red 128, Blue 0, Green 0. ;) Keith Posted by: Keith G at October 8, 2004 07:19 PM
