In the Wings

By Karl-Thomas Musselman

It's almost 4 pm and I can't believe that none of the other Burnt Orangers have written a Sept. 11 post. So neither will I.

As much as I'd like to reflect on today as a great day or mourning and remembrance, which it is, the more immediate questions is whether or not American's are making the sacrifice to reduce terror and the causes of it around to world.

In George W's mind, that of course means Iraq, which thanks to him actually has become a new front in the 'war on terror'. And just this last week, we acknowledged that 1,000 American's sacrificed their lives for Bush's lies.

Roberto Abad and Robert P. Jr. Zurheide

What do these two men have in common? They are the "A" and "Z" of 1000 Americans and in between them lie 998 more pictures of soldiers now gone from this world because of lies.

That is the most moving thing I have seen in months. Thanks to the New York Times (and George Bush) the Thousand Image Roster of the Dead.

Yes, I think Americans would do well to pause and remember the brave young men and women who have given their lives against the war in terror over in Iraq.

They have given their lives to defend our country and spread freedom to an oppressed land. A big thanks to them and their families.

I personally knew one of the 1000 fallen soldiers. He died a little over a year ago, leaving a wife and little son. But he died doing his duty. Ever since, his family has taken pride that he died to defend their lives and freedom, and firmly assert that they support the war in Iraq.

I wish those families would get more positive support and feedback... instead of negative attacks against the President whom their son/daughter/husband/wife cheerfully and wholeheartedly obeyed.

The Buck Stops Here. Sorry, Chris, but the lives lost are no ones fault but whom inspired the war and didn't have an effective plan for winning the peace. It goes to the top.

against the war in terror over in Iraq.

But it's nice to see that you are fluidly linking the war on terror with the war in Iraq. It makes it so much easier for us to pull down the President's War on Terror approval ratings as Iraq continues to go nowhere fast.

And last I heard, Osama bin Laden wasn't holed up anywhere in Iraq. I'll bet you the thousands of September 11th families havn't forgotten that.

The attempts by the administration to insinuate that Saddam or Iraq were somehow connected to 9/11 would have made the late Joseph Goebbels smile.

It's rare, even at propaganda pageants like the GOP convention, to hear the Bushies mention Osama or al-Qaeda. Yet they drone on and on about the "war on terror". It's as if they were fighting terror without terrorists.

Bush doesn't wrap himself up in 9/11 the way he used to. The revelations of pre-9/11 administration incompetence which have come out since the last anniversary have made it awkward for Dubya to do so. The 06 August 2001 memo is the smoking gun of Republican ineptitude.

Bill Clinton had a far better record against domestic terrorism. The ringleader and mastermind of the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, Ramzi Yousef, was arrested less than two years after that crime. He is now serving several life sentences in a federal supermax prison while Osama, three years after 9/11, is still freely roaming around the Afghan-Pakistan border.
Yousef's plan to blow up a dozen (or more) airliners, known as "Operation Bojinka", was thwarted before it could get off the ground.
Several plots connected with the millennium, including one to blow up L.A. International Airport, were also halted in time.
The Clinton administration's successes were the result of good police work and international cooperation, two concepts scorned by Republicans.

Karl,

You are a misguided young man with an agenda.

Even Bill Clinton and John Kerry supported attacking Iraq to aid America in the war against terror - but I know you don't want anybody remembering that. I hate to resort to such hyperbole, but George Bush did not pull the trigger on these 1000 deaths. Radical Muslim fundamentalists who want to kill you and me and wake up every day thinking of nothing else but destroying America, killed these 1000 people. Zell Miller understands that, why can't you?

But I would like to turnabout and thank YOU for so capably illustrating exactly what scares you to death. That George Bush has such a HUGE advantage over John Kerry because of his committment to fighting terrorism on every front.

Because its so crystal clear that this post of yours was never intended to be your humble attempt at mourning or remembering the 1000 men and women who have died in Iraq. It was not your intent to convey ANY respect to their families for the loss of their loved one who died doing their sworn duty. It wasn't even a positive post about this great country and our committment to liberty. It was just an attempt to politicize their deaths to fit your personal, misguided, DNC-stamped agenda.

"The Buck stops here"???? Sorry, but if "the buck stops here" because I respect these young men and women and I admire their dedication and the strength of their families - I really have to question your judgment.

I thought liberals were caring, feeling, respectful, patriotic, and pro-military people. Yet at the first instance of a conservative expressing admiration towards our military and our military families, you cannot take those words at face value. Your pre-conditioned and DNC-sanctioned response is to attack the President and to spout total BS like "The Buck stops here". You can not even find five words to express a positive sentiment towards those who died upholding their sworn duty to defend YOU.

I tried to do that. I even tried to urge you to do the same. You could have simply added a "Yes, let's pause and give our respect to these 1000 people and their families". But you didn't. You have an agenda that can't be bothered with basic respect and admiration for anybody who's died following a Republican president.

How sad.

I don't respond to personal attacks like yours Chris. Grow up.

Posted by: Karl-T at September 13, 2004 01:34 AM

Funny Karl... that's my advice to you.

The claim from the left is that the GOP used 9/11 as a political rallying call at their convention. Seems as though you would use 9/11 in exactly the same way. I hear:
"It's 9/11 - hmmm. What's the best way I can think of to tie in the deaths of that day with a negative image for W?...."

How about going for a full paragraph of memorial?

Your patriotism is not under attack. I don't think that is the issue, but (to follow Z. Miller) your judgement is.

It also seems that when you mix in an ABB message with the mourning of the 1000 heroes,(not that there is any mention of honor, only victimhood status.) you spin the the abb message to be the more important of the two.

I believe I have addressed the tactics used in the only post to commemorate 9/11 here at BOR.com. Not the person. I'm sure you're a nice guy.

I am not one who believes that everyone on the left would rather have a defeat in the war with Kerry than a victory in the war with Bush. The trouble is this:

When every statement you make about the war (Battle of Iraq of WOT on mass) includes the reminder to kick out Bush, it makes it hard to understand how you could see any priority higher than defeating Bush.

My priority is in smashing the global Islamofacist networks. If I thought Kerry, and his tactics (which I can't really pin down) would be more effective than Bush's I would suppport him.

GWB may or may not be doing the best job, but when Kerry continues to mirror, then deny, (or vice-versa) the Bush policy, it makes it tough to believe he believes in what he's talking about.
