June 26, 2004It's the End of the Quarter.... you know what that means!!By Byron LaMastersIt's June 26th, and the end of the quarter is four days away, so I decided to make my end of the quarter donations tonight. I'm a student, working part-time this summer, so I figured I could spend a little bit of money giving to candidates that I support. I'd encourage all of you to donate to the candidates of your choice at the end of the quarter (so within the next four days). End of the quarter reports can make a second tier candidate a first tier candidate. They can make seemingly uncompetetive candidates viable. Small contributions can make a difference, especially when they're bundled. That's why I decided to donate money to Kerry (which has become a monthly thing) as well as three of the dKos 8 candidates. I didn't contribute to the three top congressional races across the country, but I contributed to three races where my $10 contribution bundled with hundreds of others could make a difference.
There's other great candidates to consider as well. Stan Matsunaka is one of the candidates advertising on BOR, but there are others advertising here as well that are worthy of your support:

Err, as far as I can tell, the Hitler stuff was pulled from one of the ads that was submitted to MoveOn back when they did "Bush in 30 seconds". The BushCo video was produced as "red meat" for the dittoheads as a compilation of Democrats being "insane." This is the latest Bush meme - that Kerry, and his supporters, are mentally deranged. Frankly, Bush's surrogates did have a legitimate case in decrying the unused MoveOn submissions -- but if they were acting in good faith (do they ever?) they would have put it aside instead of recycling this stuff to score points on "crazy" Democrats. This is really about hypocrisy, pettiness, and a willingness for the Republicans to attack strawmen instead of focus on their "record" (can you blame them?). The Hitler stuff is the rhetorical equivalent of "look! it's Halley's comet!" Hey, don't spend so much! You still gotta buy Clinton's book. It's kickass. Oh by the way did anybody get to read Bill Clinton's online diary? You just gotta love the guy. This may not post, but I'll try anyway: Frankly, Bush's surrogates did have a legitimate case in decrying the unused MoveOn submissions I disagree. The MoveOn contest was open to anyone, including both overzealous lefties and GOP dirty tricksters. <tinfoil hat> I wouldn't be surprised if Karl Rove himself created a front group to create an over-the-top ad comparing Bush to Hitler and submit it to MoveOn's contest, with the express intent of doing what they did: using it as a club to bash MoveOn with later on. Admittedly, I have zero evidence for my conspiracy theory. But I wouldn't put it past Rove, and it would let the Bush campaign get away with using a clip from the ad without worrying about copyright issues. </tinfoil hat> On the other hand, Bush's use of the clip is probably "fair use" under copyright law anyway, and the overzealous leftie explanation is equally plausible. (And in any case, there was a second Nazi ad.) But the only way MoveOn could be legitimately blamed for posting it would be if they were pre-screening (i.e., censoring) the submissions before putting them up for their members to vote on. I don't think MoveOn should be criticized for putting their faith in their membership to reject over-the-top contest submissions, instead of pre-censoring them. That may be the GOP way of doing things, but it isn't the right way, and we should never let the GOP badger us into apologizing for doing the right thing. Posted by: Mathwiz at June 29, 2004 10:19 AM
