April 29, 2004Congrats to the New UD's OfficersBy Byron LaMastersI just wanted to briefly congratulate the new University Democrats officers. We had our officer elections last night with contested races in all but one race (including five candidates for President). The new president is Marcus Ceniceros who has not served as a University Democrats officer before, but he's been to about every event this semester, and he's committed to the organization, and I'm looking forward to working with him. Beth Olson was elected Vice President in a three way race (Andrew D. was one of the candidates, and lost to Beth in the runoff). I've been friends with Beth for two years and I'm looking forward to working with her as well. I won't mention all of the officers, but I'd like to congratulate Karl-Thomas, who was elected Membership Chair. I hope he knows what he's getting into. Usually we have to beg someone to be membership chair, but this year it was a close contest between Karl-Thomas and the current membership chair. It's a rather thankless job, as the membership chair must set up and take down (or find someone to do it for them) our table on the west mall every day. Anyway, congrats to all of the new UD officers and here's to a successful fall semester! Posted by Byron LaMasters at April 29, 2004 02:21 PM | TrackBack

Thank you for the kind words Byron. It is going to be hard to live up to the standards of past presidents like yourself, but I am up for the challenge. I really appreciate your support and the support of all the members who came out and voted to make sure the University Democrats will work to revive the democratic spirit at The University and will fight to get our democratic candidates elected. I am looking forward to an amazing semester and cannot wait to get things rolling. Thanks again. Democratically yours, WHOO HOOO! An El Pasoan at the Helm in Austin. Maybe ya'll will respect the people who are subjected to the hell of this far desert town :) And maybe, it will take El Pasoan to make your University Democrats "Organzation of the Year" like the University Democrats at El Paso are :) Anywhoo, congrats to the University Democrats at UT with their new members. Posted by: mike at April 29, 2004 06:27 PMMike is right. It is going to take an El Pasoan to get some things done in this state. He's doing a pretty good job at it right now at UTEP, and I am going to do my best to do the same here at UT. Let's do this my friend, or in the words of my grandmother "Adelante mi amigo!" Posted by: Marcus Ceniceros at April 29, 2004 06:34 PMYOU SEE BYRON! I TOLD YOU EL PASO ROCKS! It's not all about Juarez :O) Posted by: mike at April 29, 2004 06:56 PMMike, All I know is that when I was president of the UDs - we were the best polical / activist organization. As for when the other folks were in charge... that's there business, but when i was in charge, we won, and i have the t-shirts to prove it. Hehe. Posted by: Byron L at April 30, 2004 03:44 AM:::bows down to byron::: I forgot about that O' Great one :) Posted by: mike at April 30, 2004 01:18 PM
