April 19, 2004Honduras to Pull Out of IraqBy Byron LaMastersA second country in two days has decided to pull their troops out of Iraq. Today it's Honduras. Reuters reports:
Some on the left will obviously be happy with these developments in Spain and Honduras. I'm not. Our troops are under fire. Our troops are dying. I'm ashamed. I'm ashamed that our country completely failed to put together a worldwide coalition to govern in Iraq. The Bush administration has proved that it is unable to reach out to the world community in a meaningful way. We need a president who can. We need John Kerry. Would this be the same John Kerry who actually voted for the Iraq reconstruction appropriations before he voted against it? Or the John Kerry who thinks we need to break our country's promise about when we'll turn responsibility over to the Iraqis? If so, then I suppose Honduras was just another member of what Kerry continues to call the "fraudulent coalition" while he carps at Dubya for alienating foreign countries. But actually, I agree with the major thrust of your post, Byron, and applaud you for it. And while I'm not convinced that he means it when he says a Kerry administration wouldn't "cut and run" from Iraq, I applaud Kerry for saying that and for urging Spain not to pull out. Posted by: Beldar at April 19, 2004 11:10 PMI agree with Byron in that the current administration has failed our country. I've always thought of America as a country who did the right things, the right way. And obviously, with both Honduras and Spain pulling out, America has not done anything right this time. Spain and Honduras are pulling out because they are afraid and unwilling to stand up. If it was done to just "say no" to Bush, it means they are even more cowardly. John Kerry is the same guy who committed "atrocities" with the other Vietnam Vets, and will not be able to convince countries to supply any number of meaningful troop levels. Why should any leftist care if Honduras and Spain withdraws their troops....the leftists have been saying these foreign troops didn't mean anything anyways...that is wasn't a real coalition. Govern in Iraq? Reach out to the International community? What a joke? Posted by: Don at April 20, 2004 07:29 AMSpain and Honduras are pulling out because they are afraid and unwilling to stand up. Yeah, it makes no sense to me either. What is it going to take, a mushroom cloud before they grow a pair? </sarcasm> I think a lot of the nations that signed up in the beginning feel mislead. How would you feel if you risked the lives of your sons & daughters in someone else's war for reasons that were found to be untrue? Posted by: Jason Young at April 20, 2004 12:34 PMDon't suppose the Honduran Government's decision to pull out of Iraq might have had anything to do with Negroponte being sent over to run the show, do you? Negroponte having been the guy in charge of tasking the death squads in Honduras under Reagan . . . Posted by: Dave Porter at April 20, 2004 08:51 PM
