Hypocrisy Anyone?

Edward Kennedy, son of Joseph Kennedy, and brother of JFK and RFK, is running for Democratic Senator from Massachusetts. So here's another son of another Democrat politician trying to work his way into politics. No big deal, right?

Wrong. Edward Kennedy has a little bit of a past. Sure, everyone makes mistakes when they're young. I know I have. But Edward Kennedy didn't just make a mistake. He was responsible for the deaths of a female passenger in a car accident in the Chappaquiddick River.

So lets see here. This guy is responsible for the death of a young woman and he gets off with no punishment. Now he's a Massachusetts Senator as a "law and order" legislator.

When did people stop taking responsibility for their actions and start relying on Daddy to sweep their problems under the rug?

I think the real question is:
When will people start taking responsibility for their actions and stop relying on Daddy to sweep their problems under the rug?

Do you think our current President would have gotten anywhere if his father didn't cover his ass all the time?

If we don't stop this Hutchinson guy now, we may get another irresponsible frat boy president who was born with a silver spoon up his nose.

Let me see. We have a democrat running in Arkansas against a Hutchinson. Now that takes come courage.
What everbody needs to understand, is that special treatment of any son/daughter of an elected official...dem or rep - has got to stop. We've got a president who has hid behind his daddy's skirts since his first breath. These "kids" who have special protection...don't have to live in the real world like you and I and so they just don't get the "real world". Do we need anymore in government...state or federal..NO. Hats off the the dem in this race! You go gettem girl - my money it on it's way.

In what alternate Republican universe is Ted Kennedy a law & order senator? Please. And does a liberal killing someone in a car and getting away with it excuse the same thing with a Republican? Is that the defense the Republicans want to use here? Little Timmy is your Ted Kennedy? Fine. Little Timmy Hutchinson is the Ted Kennedy of the Republican Party. Let the word go forth from here.

I had two people e-mail me your link to this post. I can't remember - or it happened before I got there - whether you still contribute to PolState.

But if you do ... this seems to have a touch of the report about politics in your state.

This is a comment of outrage. I think there should be a law against frat daddies holding elected office. And people who have participated in 15 or more keg stands are out too!

This is just another political family who thinks that elected office puts them above the rest of us. I'm tired of it! This guy not only thinks he can get away with anything, but now he thinks he should be GIVEN an office of his own!! My money's going to Tumey...this is one Republican who needs to be put in his place!

Ted Kennedy was already a senator when Chappaquiddick happened. his father and two brothers were dead and he handled it like a man. NOTHING -- I MEAN NOTHING -- LIKE HUTCHISON. Ted Kennedy is a GREAT man. A great senator who has served his country for 42 years. dont ever bring him down to Timmy Hutchison Jr.

You tell it like it is, d! Ted Kennedy also got more than a slap on the wrist, and has never claimed to be any type of saint or law-and-order guy. He took responsibility, and left it up to his constituents to decide. And they forgave him. Thankfully.

Talk about audacity- this guy needs a reality check. Why would he want to make himself a high profile individual with something like this under his belt? If I were him I'd be too ashamed to come out of my house.

Where do people get off thinking that vehicular manslaughter is a prerequisite to run for office? This guy shouldn't be running for office, he should be looking at the inside of a jail cell. Did he seriously think people wouldn't remember? Well, that's one more republican thinking that everyone else is as stupid as they are.

I certainly don't want the Hutchinson family to continue its dynasty in Arkansas. If I have a spare dime, I'll contribute to Tumey.

But the evidence presented here seems a bit thin to convict Tim C. Hutchinson of "getting away with manslaughter," so to speak:

Timothy Chad Hutchinson ... pleaded no contest to driving left of the center line and operating a car whose tire tread had worn thin.

Hutchinson's car crossed a highway during a storm Oct. 31 and hit a car carrying a family to a funeral. A tractor-trailer then hit the two cars.

Is there more to the story? (I couldn't find much at the Arkansas Tonight website. The blogger says he wrote a column about this, but he didn't link it.) Was Tim Jr. driving recklessly? Was there alcohol in his system? If not, it sounds like Tim Jr.'s car just started hydroplaning due to a worn tire, and he slid into oncoming traffic. A tragic accident (and one he's lucky to have survived), but not necessarily a case of negligence serious enough to warrant the accusation of special treatment.

If this helps to understand the race, Benton County is the most conservative county in Arkansas. It is the home of Wal-Mart and the only Republican Congressman in the state of Arkansas. Young Tim's uncle Asa was once the Congressman from this district. Also, to be fair, the Hutchinsons don't even compete with the Pryors as far as political families go in Arkansas.

I spoke with Hutchinson after writing the article. I'll post the radio interview of this over the weekend. He was more than anything outraged someone would raise the question, but reporters did exactly that after it happened. At least one "source" who wants nothing to do with this, and who looked the records over saw at least a case of negligence -- i.e., if you were hydroplaning, why didn't you get off the road until the rain passed? -- I'm not an attorney, I don't know how valid a question that is, but I know it was a valid question to raise...anytime a prosecutor or cop gets into something like this, the questions will come up -- he was behind the wheel when it happened, so I didn't think it beyond reason to ask. I've had a lot of problems with my archives, but the article did go up again on www.soonerthought.com

I also followed the police reports and was at the hospital when the family of the deceased spoke with Timothy. Timothy was not speeding, did not have alcohol in his system, and was not hydroplaning prior to the crash. This crash was an unfortunate accident, but simply an accident. The family of the deceased could have pressed charges but chose not to after speaking with Timothy and reviewing the evidence. It is unbelievable that articles such as this are being written. Timothy is a lawyer and a former prosecutor who has accomplished much without any help from his father. He is a good and decent person who is being slandered by the accusations of those who do not know what happened and are too small to see beyond their own partision biases.

Robbyn Tumey has been spreading this garbage in an effort to raise money. The prosecutor who investigated was a democrat. The cause of the deaths were the two semi trucks that hit both tim and the other car. Tim was in the hospital for days and almost died himself. The district is a 60% plus republican district. The people of Arkansas know tim and know Robbyn - that is why Robbyn can not raise money in Arkansas and has to resort to lying about a tragic incident on out of state blogs to raise any money. I can appreciate your bloggers passion but they should check the facts before they believe everything they read.

I have to assume that it is, considering that your email addy is hutchinsonj@ualr.edu, which is for a University in Little Rock. It makes sense that you would attend UALR, instead of the nearby UA in Fayetteville, since you would work in Little Rock if you're a state legislature.
