October 01, 2003Huh? Rush Limbaugh at it AgainBy Byron LaMastersHuh?
Conservatives just aren't good at covering football. Dennis Miller is kind of funny, but he would make you scratch your head every five minutes on Monday Night Football. As for Rush Limbaugh, you'd think he longs for the days when he could keep Blacks "in their place". Ugh. It's comparable to some of the actions of YCT. YCT suggests that all minorities benefit from affirmative action. Rush suggests that Black coaches and Black quarterbacks are recipients of affirmative action. That's even sillier. Affirmative Action does not exist in sports. Teams do whatever it takes to put the best team out on the field and win. Posted by Byron LaMasters at October 1, 2003 10:35 AM | TrackBack

Affirmative Action does not exist in sports. I want to remember a stink a few years ago about the lack of black coaches and QBs in the NFL. I can remember absolutely NO details about it other than Warren Moon's name, so I could very well be making it up :). Does that ring any bells at all? -- Exactly. The NFL is all about Affirmative Action for retread old white coaches with marginal talent Posted by: Kent at October 1, 2003 01:33 PMAffirmative Action does not exist in sports The NFL is all about Affirmative Action for retread old white coaches with marginal talent Ahem. Millen fined for not interviewing minority candidates Detroit Lions president Matt Millen was fined $200,000 by the NFL on Friday for not interviewing any minority candidates before hiring coach Steve Mariucci. Are we to presume blacks are such poor coaches that their hiring must be incentivized by avoiding fines? I don't believe that about blacks, but evidently the NFL and those who support this policy do. Posted by: Mark Harden at October 1, 2003 01:49 PMThe more important question is "How much did SF's president get fined for firing Mariucci?". I had no idea a team could go to absolute crap so quickly... Posted by: Mando at October 1, 2003 02:13 PMMark, I am aware of the NFL rules, and I think that MLB has similar rules requiring interviewing minority coaches. I think that the policy is silly, but I do think that it's important that something be done to look at why there are so few minority coaches in sports. No one or no team is forced to hire Black players or coaches. The teams hire who they think will help their team win and get fans out to watch. Posted by: ByronUT at October 1, 2003 03:40 PMSomehow you seemingly missed Rush touting the success of african american coaches in the NFL a week previously, chastising owners for not hiring the many times more qualified black coaches by instead hiring retreads. Look it up. Posted by: Josh at October 1, 2003 06:25 PMWell good for him. But does one inclusive statement cancel out a blatantly racist one? Not in my eyes.
