August 26, 2003Poll: Texans oppose redistricting, but aren't happy with Dems eitherBy Jim DallasThe Dallas Morning News reports: The latest posturing came as a new Texas Poll suggests that the public is divided over redistricting. The "Texas 11" are coming to another critical juncture - whether to sit out a third special session on redistricting, which Gov. Perry may call as early as today; Democrats have previously indicated they might return for it. Posted by Jim Dallas at August 26, 2003 04:08 PM | TrackBack

Like I told Byron before, if the Dems disagreed, then they should have stayed and fought it. Running away is the most cowardly thing you can do in times a crisis. I have tons of friends from Texas, and one thing that runs through all of them, no matter what streak of politics runs thru their veins, is that fierce toughness. Running and hiding isn't exactly indicative of that, so its not surprising that the people of Texas are pissed. The people who should be equally upset are the citizens of New Mexico, who are wasting untold amount of dollars having their state troopers guard the Texas Democrats while they are in New Mexico. Posted by: Josh at August 26, 2003 06:24 PMI really dont think redistricting is really a crisis. I think they made their point and I'm proud of them, and I hope that our Gov. will think before he calls a thrid session. Posted by: Mike at August 26, 2003 10:14 PMI agree that running out of state isn't my initial idea of a virtue. But they did fight it, and they won during the regular. That win wasn't enough, though, and the rules were changed. The state held public hearings that were overwhelmingly against the redistricting, but Republicans pushed it regardless of what people think. They don't have precedent, but they're doing it anyway. They don't really have a case, but they're doing it anyway. No, I don't care for what the Democrats are doing, but I care far less for what the Republicans are doing (which I disliked when the Democrats did it). Given that the Republicans are attempting the same thing in Ohio just makes me support the Democrats even more. Posted by: Tx Bubba at August 27, 2003 11:21 AMTypical democrats, do anything to avoid losing, including breaking the law. This is the death of the democratic process pure and simple. The scumbags should be thrown out of office for dereliction of service. LOSERS! Gov Perry needs to just keep calling sessions.. The irony is that the democrats redistricted the Republicans for over a 100 years before this.. Posted by: T Painton at September 2, 2003 12:36 PM
