TX-Sen: Some Early Bill White Fundraising Numbers

by: Karl-Thomas Musselman

Wed Oct 07, 2009 at 06:16 PM CDT

The following information is verified.

  • In the last week of the quarter, the Bill White's campaign raised nearly $400,000 dollars, about 50% on the internet. That doesn't include the money that White said he'd personally match.

  • As of yesterday, more than 5000 people have contributed to the Bill White campaign.

  • Billionaire businessman (and Democrat) Warren Buffett is a Bill White donor.

More as we know it.

Wow! (0.00 / 0)
White is going to post some big numbers I think.  When you tease you've got something good to report.  I wouldn't be surprised if his campaign waits a day after everyone else reports just to own the media for a day.  Much like Obama did to Clinton early on in his fundraising successes.

I still want Sharp to stay in (0.00 / 0)
All these posts about the fundraising, money, money, money, and how the DSCC will pour money into Texas only if there is only one candidate, are starting to blur together for me.  I have read a ton about why White is supposedly more electable because of fundraising and because of his Houston base, but I still don't know why he would be a better senator on the actual issues than John Sharp.  That's why I'm still undecided and why I hope both stay in.

I'm also not convinced that Bill White is a better, more electable candidate than Sharp anyway.  Sharp seems to have more appeal to South Texas where there needs to be high turnout for a Democrat to win.

Now that Leticia Van De Putte has endorsed Sharp, I am definitely giving this possible race a second look.  I was leaning toward White before, though uncommitted, and now I would say I am totally undecided.
