Hey Straus - It's Your House! Do You Know How to Lead?

by: Phillip Martin

Mon May 25, 2009 at 03:35 PM CDT

Straus is now calling Democrats "obstructionists."

Cute.

Except that its his Calendar, Republicans chose him in their "gang of 11" meeting, and Republicans are the majority.

Mr. Speaker, if you had the balls to lead, then you'd lead. But you can't stand up to your own Republican caucus and keep this divisive issue of voter ID off the front-burner. You've caved to the extremists -- because you don't know how to lead a divided House.

Call us obstructionists -- boo-hoo. Democrats can stand on principles while you stand on politics.

Then you and Burka can go join the ten best hypocrites list in Texas.

Remember who changed the rules in the Senate to trigger this silly (0.00 / 0)

...Voter Suppression Legislation?

Lets not forget that Repubs (all but Carona) supported an act seldom committed in the history of the TX Senate; changing the rules and waiving the 2/3 required vote in order to get this silly Voter Suppression Legislation onto the floor.

If anyone is to blame for this it's the Repubs.  Dems are simply trying to prevent millions of Texans from being disenfranchised.

Happy Memorial Day Y'all.

Just want to say thanks for covering this issue consistently and well.

If Perry calls a special session over this, I think we have to plan some kind of public action to protest it. We need to show the House Dems that we support their efforts to stop this bill.

No doubt. (0.00 / 0)

We have a small army ready to go in Travis County, but we need qualified help organizing the rest of the state's activists in all counties other than Travis...that's the key.

We've got to hit these proactively or we'll be in a weak postion again scrambling and reacting to the Repubs.

Best,
David Kobierowski
